This conference aims to bring together basic scientists, applied researchers and clinical development experts who are working on various aspects of genomics and proteomics. The meeting will be particularly advantageous to clinicians and basic scientist who are already engaged in basic and applied research to understand the human biology of different diseases including cancer, neurogenerative diseases, viral, bacterial and fungal infections etc. The main focus of this conference is on state-of-the-art technologies involving proteomics and genomics to explore cellular functions under different pathological state.

      Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a residential academic institution located in the city of Aligarh.     • About IBU

      The Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit (IBU) owes its origin to the foresight and enthusiasm of the then Vice-Chancellor Mr. Saiyid Hamid and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Mr. K.M. Bahauddin for establishing a center for excellence in teaching and research in modern biological sciences and biotechnology. Prof. A. Salahuddin, then professor of Biochemistry and a protein chemist of repute was assigned the task of establishing the center and initiating a Master’s programme in Enzyme and Fermentation Biotechnology in the year 1984. The IBU was established by an ordinance that came into effect in 1987 and Prof. Salahuddin was made the founder coordinator. The Master’s programme was redesignated as M.Sc. Biotechnology. Nobel laureate Professor Abus-Salam laid the foundation stone of the IBU building on January 15, 1986 and the building occupied in the year 1988. Thanks to the generous grants provided by UGC and DBT to strengthen the research laboratories in the Unit. Since the year 1990 the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, generously supports the M.Sc. Biotechnology teaching programme. The IBU is headed by the coordinator and has a core faculty of three Professors and two Associate Professors. Considering the interdisciplinary nature of the programme, teachers from the faculty of Engineering, Law and Business Administration are also involved in the teaching.Admissions to the M.Sc. Biotechnology course are made through an All India Entrance Test conducted by the University. The programme includes in addition to courses in various discipline of modern biology, biotechnology and lab courses, project work and seminars lectures. The Unit currently receives research funding from various agencies including DBT, DST, CSIR, UGC ICMR and UPCST. Since the year 2001, the Unit has been recognized by the Department of Science and Technology under its FIST programme and the programme is in the second phase The Unit has research funds under the DST-PURSE given worth of Rs. 2.5 crores. Recently the Unit has initiated and coordinated DBT BUILDER programme worth Rs. 10.00 crores. Currently there are 29 research scholars working in the Unit for their Ph.D. degrees. Drug Resistance, Drug Targeting, Vaccine, Protein Folding, Drug Designing, and Enzymology are the thrust areas of research in IBU.

It has now become a need of the time to update and upgrade the current tools and techniques for the improvement of life. Disease state is one the conditions which makes life difficult at any stage of the age. Therefore, it is a time to think sensibly about precise diagnosis followed by its treatment. A huge amount of information is available on diagnosis of different microbial infections, cancer and other ailments which may be discussed on single platform to exchange the knowledge in order to their proper implementation. Researches have already been performed to identify various disease targets in order to design potential drug candidates as therapeutic approaches. Moreover, nanotechnology and photodynamic therapy has open new prospects to explore therapeutics and theranostics. This is a time to focus on precision and personalized medicine. Therefore, a precise target needs to be explored for targeted therapy and hence theranostic could be the solution which may provide an in-depth overview of the current state of the art and future directions in the management of various cancer treatments.
      The lectures and discussions will be at an advanced level on cutting edge technologies in clinical and basic science. Hence, the meeting will be particularly advantageous to clinicians and basic scientist who are already engaged in the diagnosis and therapeutic approaches for various diseases.
